THE MODEL
The 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo M505 Slantnose is one of the most distinctive and collectible versions of the air-cooled 930-generation 911 Turbo. “Slantnose,” or Flachbau in German, refers to its radically reshaped front end, inspired by Porsche's 935 Group 5 racing cars. Instead of the traditional upright 911 headlights, the M505 has smooth, sloping front fenders with pop-up headlights, functional fender louvers, extended rocker panels, and distinctive air intakes in the rear quarters.
What makes the M505 particularly interesting is that it wasn't simply an aftermarket body kit. Porsche originally built Slantnose cars through its Sonderwunsch (“Special Wishes”) program, and by 1987 the configuration became an official factory option for U.S.-market cars under M505. Porsche actually modified cars with substantial hand-built bodywork, making the option extraordinarily expensive—roughly $25,000 in 1988 on top of an approximately $85,000 Turbo.
THE CAR
This is a real M505 Turbo coupe, it was owned by the same local Bay Area family from at least 1992 (the first invoice we have at 5600 miles) until 2024 when our client purchased it.
We have had the great fortune to work with this owner on many of the cars in his collection. An impeccable and meticulous owner, every car he acquires receives full attention and work is done to bring it to the best possible condition. This car is no exception. It was meant to be in his collection long-term; however, a health condition will prevent him from driving this car. After all the work put into making this car what it is, he wanted to ensure that it will be driven and enjoyed!
We have over $90k in work documented since our client’s acquisition, some of that work includes:
* Tune-up, valve adjustment, replace oil feed hoses and oil return tubes, fuel accumulator, engine mounts, hood struts
* Set of 4 RH 3.6 3 piece wheels (Speedline style) and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
* New speakers, Porsche Classic Radio, new dashboard, remove and replace old carpet, install sound deadening, new door cards
