THE MODEL

The 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet represents a high point in the G-series 911 lineage, benefiting from nearly two decades of iterative refinement. It’s powered by the air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six (M930/25), producing 217 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque (U.S. spec), paired for the first time with the Getrag G50 5-speed gearbox—a significant upgrade over the previous 915 transmission, offering smoother shifts and improved durability thanks to its hydraulic clutch and more precise linkage.

This Cabriolet variant delivers the iconic 911 driving experience with the added appeal of open-air motoring, featuring a manually operated (or optional power) soft top. While it adds weight and marginal chassis flex compared to the coupe, the Cabriolet maintains a communicative chassis, thanks in part to its torsion bar suspension and classic rear-engine layout.

By 1987, the Carrera 3.2 had matured into a reliable and highly usable sports car, with galvanized body panels for rust resistance, improved Bosch Motronic 2 DME engine management, and a more refined interior than earlier models. The ‘87 also benefits from the updated HVAC controls and available options like limited-slip differential, sport seats, and Fuchs forged alloy wheels—typically seen in staggered 6” front / 7” or 8” rear configurations.

This model year sits just before the transitional 964 generation and is often viewed as the sweet spot for analog 911s—raw but refined, with improved ergonomics and drivability without diluting the air-cooled character. Collectors and drivers alike prize the 1987 model for its G50 transmission, classic lines, and the purity of its mechanical feel.

Values for clean G50-equipped Carreras continue to hold strong, with collector interest rising in recent years.

THE CAR

This is an excellent example of the 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet.  It's had only 2 California owners since new.  The original owner logged every single thing they did to the car, including just topping off the oil!  The current owner continued the tradition and now with nearly 150k miles on the clock, the car runs as tight and strong as new with strong compression across all 6 cylinders, excellent paint, interior and top as well as rust free underside.

The only blemish on this car is a crack in the windshield, other than that, it needs nothing other then to be driven and enjoyed!
