THE MODEL
The 1972 BMW 2002 tii represents the pinnacle of the pre-fuel-crisis Neue Klasse performance ethos. At its heart is the M10 2.0L inline-four, but the tii variant features Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, bumping output to 130 hp (DIN) and delivering a noticeably sharper throttle response over the standard carbureted 2002.
Key features include a 4-speed Getrag gearbox (optional 5-speed in later years), front disc brakes, and MacPherson struts up front with semi-trailing arms in the rear — a setup that earned the 2002 its legendary handling balance. The tii-specific suspension tuning adds to the chassis’ poise, making it ideal for spirited backroad driving while remaining remarkably compliant for its era.
Unlike the more raw 2002 Turbo that followed in 1973, the tii strikes a more refined performance balance. With its mechanical injection and tighter tolerances, it’s a driver’s car that rewards precision and engagement. Period upgrades like Recaro buckets, Alpina suspension kits, and BBS wheels are popular among enthusiasts, though original examples are becoming increasingly sought-after for their purity.

THE CAR
This 1972 BMW 2002 Tii is a number's matching original Italian car in Colorado Orange. Imported to Florida in 2016, this car is in impeccable shape. An extremely high level driver, and the interior, engine bay and trunk are absolutely superb! It still features original Italian license plate number etched into the glass.
Since arriving in the US, the car has purportedly had the following things addressed:
Respray in Florida in that original 002 Colorado Orange color
Engine rebuild, all injectors, the Kugelfischer pump and virtually every nut & bolt ($10k)
Suspension bushings replaced
As mentioned, the engine bay, interior and trunk are all refinished to a very high quality.
A new OEM Exhaust resonator, fluid service a new window regulator and new tie rod.
