THE MODEL
The 1971 Porsche 911T ("Touring") marked the penultimate year of the 2.2-liter F-series 911s and represented the entry-level specification within Porsche’s three-tier lineup, below the 911E and 911S. Despite its position at the base of the range, the 911T retained the essential character of the air-cooled, rear-engine platform—offering a purer, more mechanical drive compared to its higher-strung siblings.
The 1971 model year brought subtle but meaningful refinements. The 2.2-liter flat-six (Type 911/07 for the U.S., 911/03 ROW) produced 125 PS (123 hp DIN) at 5,800 rpm and 131 lb-ft at 4,200 rpm, utilizing twin Zenith 40 TIN carburetors in U.S. models—while some ROW variants retained Weber 40 IDTPs. Although down on power compared to the E and S, the T benefitted from a friendlier torque curve and a more relaxed temperament, making it popular among drivers seeking a usable, analog 911 without the edginess of the higher-performance variants.
Crucially, 1971 marked the first year of the relocated external oil filler on the right rear quarter—specific to that year only—accommodating the repositioned oil tank ahead of the rear axle for better weight distribution, a change derived from motorsport learnings. This was also the last full model year before the long-wheelbase (LWB) 911s would receive significant structural and emissions-related changes in 1972. The 911T came standard with a 4-speed 901 gearbox, though a 5-speed was optional.
THIS CAR
This is a great honest 911T, a perfect starting point for a great canyon carving longhood or a good candidate for a full blown restoration. This is an original blue plate car with no structural rust. It has it's numbers matching engine and an upgraded 5-speed transmision.
We have the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as well as a recent PPI.
