THE MODEL

The 1970 Porsche 911T (Touring) represents the entry point to the 911 lineup during the height of Porsche’s early air-cooled evolution, but make no mistake—this was far from a compromise car. Powered by a 2.2-liter flat-six (Type 911/07), the T delivered 125 hp (SAE gross) and featured mechanical fuel injection (MFI) on European models, while U.S. variants retained Zenith triple-throat carburetors until 1972. The T may have sat below the E and S in the model hierarchy, but its lighter weight and simplified trim lent it a purity and analog character that has since become highly prized.

The 1970 model year marked a key transition, with the wheelbase extended to 2,268 mm (89.3 in) for better high-speed stability—mitigating the notorious tail-happy nature of earlier SWB cars. The revised B-series chassis included galvanized inner panels for improved corrosion resistance, and the suspension setup (torsion bars with McPherson struts up front, trailing arms in the rear) remained unchanged but refined.

Aesthetically, the 911T retained the F-body’s clean lines, with subtle trim differences and 14-inch Fuchs or steel wheels as standard. Inside, the revised dashboard layout featured a more driver-focused five-gauge cluster and optional comfort group features that bridged performance and usability.

For the discerning enthusiast, the ’70 911T offers a visceral driving experience—lightweight, unfiltered, and mechanically engaging. Its relative mechanical simplicity and rising collector interest have made it a cornerstone of the early long-hood 911 revival.

THIS CAR

THE CAR THAT CREATED A COMMUNITY...

This car is nowhere close to it's humble beginnings at the base of the longhood range.  Found as a solid, unfinished project back in 2016 by two enthusiasts, it began a journey of a rolling restoration, going through multiple phases as the two friends continued to refine what they were looking for from a 'no holds barred' early 911.  Another friend drove the car across the country and called them saying it was a great solid car, it could be anything you want it to be... it's a freak.  The name stuck and this car is well known across the Bay Area Porsche scene at 'The Freak'.

This car began a collaboration with those two individuals that led to the creation of 'Wreccd' a track day focused community starting mainly with real estate professionals that came together to create a special bond that continues to this day.

SIGNIFICANT TIMELINE EVENTS:

  • 08/2016 - Purchased from Trissl Sports Car in Florence, Alabama and was driven to California

  • 10/2016 - Sid's Custom Upholstery customized the Scheel seats and covered in black leather and brass eyelets, also creating the mat for the frunk.  A retro look bluetooth radio was also installed

  • 05/2017 - A rebuilt 1980’s 3.2L fuel injected Carrera engine was sourced from Einmalig in southern California and installed by Pasadena air cooled along with a five (5) speed 915 gearbox.

  • 10/2021 - The car was painted and after curing a vinyl wrap was added along with black and red vinyl stripes.

  • 02/2023 - Tom Amon of Mobile Works West rebuilds the 3.2L into a 'hot' 3.4L.

BUILD DETAILS:

Current Engine build: The engine was pulled and machined and fully rebuilt to new specs.  It is now 3.4L with ARP rod bolts, nuts, head and case studs. 98mm pistons. 10.5:1 compression ratio. Doughtery racing cams. RSR Lightweight flywheel and sport clutch.  It has an electronically Bluetooth controlled and adjustable unit ignition system.  46mm Weber carbs. SSI heat exchanger. M&K sport exhaust. The engine build was consulted with and spec’d by Cameron Wayland in Santa Rosa, CA.  The assembly and install was done by Tom Amon of Mobile Works West in Grass Valley, CA.

Drivetrain: It has its now 5 speed 915 transaxle, four wheel disc brakes sourced off a 968/944S2 as well as upgraded sway bars and Bilstein suspension.  Engine hp is estimated at 285 - 300hp though it has not been officially dyno’d.

Wheels & Tires: There are two sets of wheel/tires that go with the car:

  • Three-piece custom Fuchs centers with BBS straight lips, they were completely disassembled and restored by Wheel Techniques in Santa Clara, CA. and wear Pirelli Cinturato P7’s.  225/50/15s and 285/40/15.

  • 1980’s Compomotive 17” wheels built in England and came off of a Carrera Turbo Cab. They are currently plasti-dipped in “brass monkey” bronze with Toyo R888R’s 225/45/17 and 275/35/17.
