THE MODEL
Built from 1968 until 1972, the 300 SEL 6.3 was created as a full size luxury performance car. They took the M100 6.3L V8 motor and installed it in the W109 SEL chassis that normally contained only a 6-cylinder engine. This car was famous for it's ability to easily maintain speeds of 120+ MPH with a full compliment of 5 passengers. A luxury model, it featured advanced air suspension, large disc brakes, power windows, power sunroof and other amenities.
A total of 6,526 300 SEL 6.3s were produced.
THIS CAR
The husband of the current owner, a pilot and a Mercedes aficionado, purchased this car in the late '80's in California. He drove it regularly until 2003 when it was moved to their second home in Mississippi where a mild restoration was planned. After the owner passed away, the car was transported back to California as a non-running project. The car is in that same condition today and comes with an additional M100 6.3l engine that the husband bought as a freshly rebuilt spare.
Both engines turn by hand and the air suspension can be pumped up, but will not maintain pressure.
