THE MODEL
The 1962 Porsche 356B T6 Twin-Grille Roadster represents one of the rarest and most distinctive open versions of Porsche’s landmark 356. Built during the final evolution of the 356B, it combined the lightweight, minimalist character of the earlier Roadster with the more refined T6 bodywork introduced for 1962.
The name “Twin Grille” comes from the two ventilation grilles incorporated into the rear engine lid, replacing the single grille of earlier T5 Roadsters. Other T6 identifiers include the squared-off front hood and the fuel filler relocated to the top of the right front fender.
Production was transferred from German coachbuilder Drauz to D’Ieteren Frères of Brussels, Belgium, which completed only about 248–249 examples. The model was quickly discontinued as Porsche moved toward the 356C and concentrated its open-car production on the Cabriolet.
THE CAR
This is a 1962 Porsche 356B Twin Grill Roadster!
1 of only 248 356’s built with bodywork by Belgian coachbuilder D’Ieteren Frères. Our client acquired it from Silver Arrow Cars in April 2020. Since then, it has remained in a car cocoon in our client’s collection. This car wears a repaint of its original Oslo Blue over red leather interior. This has to be one of the most handsome color combinations seen on a 356.
The car was acquired by Park Place Ltd in Bellevue, Washington, in 2017 from the estate of its third owner. That owner had the car for over 42 years, painted it red and put in the Super 90 engine. This car had lived its entire life in the Pacific Northwest. Park Place treated it to a 100% no expense spared restoration between 2017 and 2018. You can see the restoration invoices in the gallery.
