THE MODEL
The 1960 Porsche 356 B T5 Cabriolet is an early-1960s open-top sports car that represents a transitional step in the evolution of Porsche’s first production model, the 356. It blends the brand’s original minimalist engineering with subtle refinements aimed at comfort, usability, and broader appeal—especially in the American market.
As part of the 356 B “T5” generation (introduced in late 1959), this model featured updated styling over the earlier 356 A. The most noticeable changes included higher-mounted headlights and bumpers, giving the car a slightly more upright and modern look while retaining its iconic rounded silhouette.
Under the hood, it carried a rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-four engine (typically 1.6 liters), producing between 60 and 90 horsepower, depending on the trim (Normal, Super, etc.). While modest by today’s standards, its lightweight design and balanced handling made it engaging and nimble on winding roads.
THE CAR
This car has been repainted in its original, rare Royal Blue color. It was an older restoration. We have the Kardex and it shows that its a numbers matching car, in the original color. It also has the original hardtop that came with the car.
Noted air-cooled specialist Bill Eason of Eason AutoWorks in Oakland has seen the car. He converted the front brakes to discs and performed a compression check, which showed great numbers, see those invoices in the gallery.
This car presents exceedingly well, but being an older restoration, it has acquired a few paint chips along the way. We think it’s the perfect combination: eye-catching, but not so perfect that you fear getting it out and actually using it. This is the perfect 356 to ENJOY!
