THE MODEL

In the early 1950's, the Series Sixty Special was a more luxurious version of the Series 62 models.  The styling on this Series Sixty began with a new model line in 1950, ending in 1953.  The last year of this model line, 1953, featured a jump in power to 210hp from the 331 cu in V8.  Being the premium example in the model lineup, these cars featured some new options, like the "Autronic Eye", which was an automated headlight dimming sensor on the dashboard.  In 1953, an improved 12-volt electrical system was also added.

THIS CAR

This particular Series Sixty Special may well be the most original example in the world today.  It has been part of three major collections over its lifetime.

As noted in previous auction descriptions, this car was originally sold in Bridgeport, CT.  It was apparently purchased by a James King in Bridgeport, before later being acquired by the local Packard dealership.  They kept this car as a competitive example for many years until it was put in long term storage.

The car would then find its way into the hands of the renowned collector Charles Cawley, founder of MBNA bank.  With an example of virtually every American car from the 1950's & 60's, he was particularly looking for very original cars, preferable in black.  It remained in his collection until 2008 and just under 7000 miles.

After that, it would later be acquired by noted Texas collector Paul Andrews.  Who kept it for many years.  He would add almost 1700 miles to the car during his stewardship.  A few years ago this car found its way into its third collection, that of Ted Stevens of Northern California.

During its entire life, this Series Sixty has been kept in turn key condition by private collection mechanics.  It is extremely original and now has just over 9000 miles on the clock.  The upholstery has been protected since the very beginning with plastic slip covers.  The car remains in amazingly original shape and even includes an oil change sticker with only 1005 miles noted and one from 1969 in Bridgeport with 5560 miles.

This is a very rare opportunity to acquire such an original and low mileage Cadillac in its 70th year!
